Alec Baldwin's victim Halyna Hutchins' husband shares tribute to wife after death

The husband of Halyna Hutchins, who was tragically killed in a horrifying accident on Thursday while filming for Alec Baldwin's new movie Rust, has paid tribute to his wife after her death.

The director of photography died on the set of the Oscar-nominated actor's film, after a prop gun Alec was using reportedly misfired.

Halyna's husband Matthew Hutchins took to Twitter on Saturday and shared a photo of his beloved wife with their nine-year-old son Andros.

He captioned the image: "Halyna inspired us all with her passion and vision, and her legacy is too meaningful to encapsulate in words.

"Our loss is enormous, and we ask that the media please respect my family’s privacy as we process our grief. We thank everyone for sharing images and stories of her life."

Matthew also updated his profile picture to a photo of the couple, who were married for 16 years, as well as his bio, which reads: "We miss you, Halyna."

During the tragic accident on Thursday, the film's director and co-writer, Joel Souza, was also seriously injured in the incident, but was later released from hospital.

Following the devastating news, Alec spoke out for the first time on Friday.

He shared: "There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.

"I'm fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna."

The Departed star, who is father to seven children, sent his condolences to Hutchins’ family and friends.

Police were called to the scene shortly after the incident, and the cinematographer was rushed to hospital via helicopter, but later died at the University of New Mexico Hospital.

Her tragic death was confirmed by the International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600.

A statement issued by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's office said Hutchins and Souza were shot when the prop firearm was discharged by leading man Baldwin.

He has since been questioned and released without charge, as the investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and witnesses are being interviewed by officers.

Pictures of Baldwin, who also served a producer on the Western, was pictured looking distraught following the shooting, and was spotted hunched over and sobbing, while talking on the phone.

Production on the movie has been shut down indefinitely, and producers of Rust offered counselling to affected members of their cast and crew.
