Alec Baldwin has reached a settlement with the estate of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was killed on the set of the film Rust.

The producers are also said to have agreed terms with the family of Ms Hutchins who was fatally shot when Mr Baldwin fired what he thought was a dummy gun. The director Joel Souza was also injured in the incident of October 21.

Matthew Hutchins, the husband of Halyna, has reportedly signed on to finish the film’s cinematography when production restarts in January.

The estate filed a wrongful death lawsuit in February but Mr Hutchins told reporters: “We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval… our case will be dismissed.

“All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”

He added: “The filming of Rust, which I will now executive produce, will resume with all the original principal players on board in January 2023.”

Rust Movie Productions, the company behind the film, has also released a statement although it has not been disclosed how much the settlement was worth.

“We are pleased the parties came together to resolve this matter, which, subject to court approval, marks an important step forward in celebrating Halyna’s life and honoring [sic] her work,” the Rust statement read.

Mother-of-one Ms Hutchins was Ukrainian born and 42 when she died. She had worked on the production of eight films before Rust - a modern western filmed in the New Mexico desert.

Production of Rust was halted in October 2021 after the incident, but the trouble did not stop there. Handyman Jason Miller was closing the production when bitten by a venomous spider and he needed several surgeries to avoid arm amputation.
