Alec Baldwin 'didn't know gun had live rounds' when woman shot and killed

Alec Baldwin reportedly didn't know that the prop gun which killed one and seriously injured another on the set of Rust on Thursday contained live rounds.

Santa Fe authorities confirmed on Thursday that the movie's lead actor Alec, 63, was the person who fired the stunt gun.

The actor is said to have cocked and fired the gun on set of the Western movie and hit the film’s director and cinematographer

The movie's Director of Photography Halyna Hutchins, 42, was airlifted from the set after being hit in the stomach at the Bonanza Creek Ranch.

She was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where she sadly passed away.

Director Joel Souza, 48, was also shot according to the Santa Fe County sheriff. He remains in intensive care.

Police are still investigating the incident at the popular filming location and no charges have been filed.

Local newspaper, Santa Fe New Mexican reported that Alec was seen in tears outside the local sheriff's office on Thursday.

The set of the movie was reportedly locked down after the gunfire.

A representative for the film told Deadline: "There was an accident today on the New Mexico set of Rust involving the misfire of a prop gun with blanks. Two crew members have been taken to the hospital and are receiving care. Production has been halted for the time being."

Following the confirmation of Halyna's death, Cinematographers Guild’s National President, John Lindley, and National Executive Director, Rebecca Rhine released a statement.

It read: "We received the devastating news this evening, that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, the Director of Photography on a production called Rust in New Mexico died from injuries sustained on the set.

"The details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event,” added the guild executives.

"This is a terrible loss, and we mourn the passing of a member of our Guild’s family."

Alec is a co-producer of the film and plays its outlaw namesake, who attempts to free his 13-year-old grandson from prison after he is convicted of an accidental murder.
