Aldis Hodge open to returning for James Gunn's DC Universe

James Gunn

In a recent interview, Black Adam star Aldis Hodge expressed his hope to return for James Gunn's DC Universe. Hodge played the role of Carter Hall, also known as Hawkman, in the 2022 film. Although the plans for a Black Adam sequel were shelved, Hodge remains open to the possibility of continuing Hawkman's story in the expanded DC Universe.

When asked about discussions with James Gunn regarding his return to the DCU, Hodge mentioned that he couldn't provide any specific details, as it was 'above his paygrade.' However, he expressed his eagerness to finish the previously established plans for Hawkman and explore the depth of the character's storyline. Hodge mentioned that if the opportunity arises, he would be open to continuing his portrayal of Hawkman.

It is worth noting that Gunn's vision for the future of the DC Universe involves building a different world, and it remains uncertain whether Hodge's Hawkman will be a part of it. Nonetheless, Hodge confirmed that he is always available if the studio decides to reach out to him.

In the early stages of Gunn's involvement with the DC Universe, Dwayne Johnson, who plays Black Adam, had hinted at plans to continue the story in future multiverse chapters. While those plans may have changed due to shifts in leadership at Warner Bros. Discovery, both Johnson and Gunn have expressed their willingness to collaborate on other projects within the franchise. Hodge, too, shares confidence in Gunn's vision for the future of the DC Universe.

With Gunn's confirmation of DC Elseworlds projects running alongside the DCU, there is a possibility that Hodge's Hawkman could make a return. The Justice Society, which introduced Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone, has just begun its renewed tenure. Additionally, the post-credits scene in Shazam! Fury of the Gods hints at Zachary Levi's hero joining the team, connecting it to Peacemaker season 2 set in Gunn's DCU.

Aside from a Black Adam follow-up, another option for Hodge to return to Gunn's DCU could be by playing an entirely new character. Rumors have circulated about Jason Momoa potentially portraying Lobo in the franchise, indicating that Gunn is open to working with previous DC actors. Hodge's portrayal of Hawkman received positive feedback, and with Isabela Merced already cast as a version of Hawkgirl in Gunn's Superman: Legacy, there are numerous avenues for Hodge's potential future in the DC Universe.

While the specifics of Hodge's involvement in James Gunn's DC Universe are yet to be determined, the actor remains hopeful and ready to play his part. Fans will have to wait and see how the ever-expanding DC Universe unfolds and whether Hodge's Hawkman will soar once again.
