Aldi white chocolate Easter Egg comes out on top in taste test - and it costs £4.99

Budget supermarket chain Aldi 's £4.99 Easter egg has beat out stiff competition in a recent taste test.

The Moser Roth Hand Decorated Belgian White Chocolate Ripple Egg has been crowned the winner of 'Best White Chocolate Easter Egg' in the annual BBC Good Food Easter Awards, which is judged and eaten by food experts.

This egg, which also comes with with smooth white chocolate raspberry filled truffles, is currently available in store now - but you might want to hop to it as it won't be around for long.

The Moser Roth Ripple Eggs are also available in Belgian Dark Chocolate with Dark Chocolate Hazelnut Praline Filled Truffles (£4.99) and Belgian Milk Chocolate with Rich Salted Caramel Filled Truffles (£4.99) - both are available in store now along with Aldi's full Easter range for 2020 .

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying, at Aldi UK commented: “Our 2020 Easter egg collection has been crafted with delicious twists and delectable flavours to give our customers, both young and old, something amazing to feast on this Easter”.

Easter is a few months away, but that’s not stopping the supermarkets stocking up on the tasty chocolate egg-shaped treat early.

Morrisons currently have 50p off their smaller Easter eggs - making them just £1. These are perfect to stock up on and gift the whole family. Pick up your favourites from Mini Eggs , Cremé Egg and Smarties from Morrisons now.

Rival chain Sainsbury’s has a small Milkybar White Chocolate Easter egg also at £1 and the Easter favourite, Lindt’s White Chocolate Egg with Lindor truffles for £5.

While Asda is exclusively selling a Cadbury White Giant Buttons Easter egg for 2020, which fans can’t get enough of. They also have an offer of three Easter Eggs for £8 online and in-store on selected Easter eggs.

Tesco is offering small Easter eggs from £1, medium eggs from £1.50 and large eggs from £4. There are even a few extra large Easter eggs from £6.

Asda’s £5 vegan Easter egg came out on top in another taste test conducted by the Good Housekeeping Insitute. The Extra Special Free-From and Vegan Belgian Dark Chocolate Egg with Vanilla Truffles, which is both dairy and gluten free, reigns in first place with an Extra Thick Blonde and White Chocolate Egg from M&S, £12 (500g) and The Chocolate Libertine Giant Blonde Chocolate Beehive Egg with Honeycomb nuggets , which costs £69.99 (1.05kg).
