Thousands of Aldi shoppers queue online for new Kevin the Carrot range

Aldi shoppers say that trying to get their hands on the retailer’s new Kevin the Carrot plush toy range is the “equivalent of Glastonbury tickets”.

Thousands of shoppers tried to get onto the Aldi website on Thursday morning to access the new Kevin the Carrot collection. More than 13,000 people were being held in an online queue on the Aldi page.

The new toy range comes after Kevin the Carrot returned for his seventh year in Aldi’s new Christmas advert. He was joined by his family in the ad, which paid homage to Home Alone and saw Kevin left behind when he missed his flight to Paris.

From today, November 17, Aldi shoppers will be able to get their hands on plush toys of the whole family once again - but as with all Specialbuys, once they're gone, they're gone. For the first time ever, the entire Carrot family is also available in Squishee form.

Thousands of Aldi shoppers are eagerly waiting to get their hands on the new plush toy range, with an expected wait time of more than an hour for anyone joining now. A message on the site says: “We’re very sorry, but there are currently lots of people trying to access the Aldi website. We’ve automatically placed you in a queue. Don’t worry about refreshing - this page will update automatically as soon as you can enter the site.”

Your queue number, the number of people ahead of you in the queue and your estimated wait time are then listed below. Many people have taken to Twitter to share their experiences.

One person said: “Trying to get #KevinTheCarrot toys equivalent of Glastonbury tickets I think @AldiUK”. Alongside a screenshot of the Aldi website showing a queue of more than 19,000, a second wrote: Foolishly thought I could buy my @KevinTheCarrot toys on line as it's pouring with rain!”

Another shared a photo from outside an Aldi store and added: “@AldiUK is there anything more British than queueing for #KevinTheCarrot Day in the pouring rain before school?! Wish us luck! #kevin we’re here to get ya!!”

An Aldi spokesperson said: “The demand for our Kevin the Carrot soft toys was extremely high and, as a result, customers were held in a queue to enter the website. This was to improve the customer experience on our website and we apologise for any inconvenience.”

As well as Kevin and his family, Aldi has also released a number of other plushes inspired by its Christmas ad teaser, which paid homage to the 1998 Nike World Cup advert. Shoppers can get their hands on MmmBap, Marrowdonna, Roy Bean, Ronaldi and Messy, all available in plush form, as well as Kevin’s buddies Mouse and Tortoise.

Aldi is also offering an extended range of Kevin the Carrot products this year, such as Tree Plush Decorations, which will be available in a selection of the well-loved characters. Kevin Christmas Pyjamas will also be available in red or blue for ages one to 12. You can find the full details of how and where to buy Aldi’s new Kevin the Carrot range here.
