Aldi urgently recalls chicken goujons over fears they may contain salmonella

Aldi is urgently recalling a line of breaded chicken goujons over fears they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The harmful bacteria, which can cause food poisoning, has been found in a batch of the budget supermarket's Roosters brand.

Contaminated 320g bags are sold with batch codes 20300B and 20323B, with the Best Before dates of October 2021 and November 2021.

People who have bought the Roosters Breaded Chicken Goujons are warned not to eat them and to return them to the nearest Aldi store for a full refund.

A risk statement published by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) reads: "The presence of salmonella in the product listed above.

"Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps."

Aldi is asking anyone who has the product at home to return it to their nearest store, where they do not need a receipt to get the refund.

The supermarket will also be adding notices at their stores, to explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what action to take.

Aldi have said: "Our supplier is recalling this product due to the possible presence of salmonella.

"Customers are advised not to eat this product."

Aldi added: "We apologise for any convenience and thank you for your cooperation."
