Aldi updates customers on why 'traffic light' queuing system is not in stores yet

Aldi has reassured customers its new "traffic light" system is on its way to stores after shoppers in Liverpool failed to see any difference during recent visits to stores.

Last month, budget supermarket Aldi announced its new system would help control the number of customers going in and out of stores and would be rolled out nationwide.

Like the name suggests, traffic lights will signal when customers can enter stores based on individual store customer limits that are in line with two-metre social distancing rules.

Aldi has confirmed that although news of the queuing system were released last month, the full roll out will not be completed until July.

Currently Aldi stores in Garston, St Johns Shopping Centre, Bootle and Netherton do not have the system in place.

Once in place, the traffic light system will run alongside the current measures already in place at all Aldi stores to ensure social distancing.

This includes protective screens at checkouts, distancing markers on shop floors, sanitisation stations for customers as well as signage to offer clear guidance on how to shop safely. Stores are also encouraging one customer per trolley where possible.
