Aldi unveils new wine range with tipples from as far afield as Lebanon and Canada

Budget supermarket Aldi has expanded its range of wines for autumn - with varieties from as far afield as the Lebanon and Canada.

To help navigate the various bottles on sale and help with some of the lesser-known blends, the retailer has teamed up with Aldi Wine School expert Sam Caporn, to offer practical suggestions based on shoppers’ preferences.

The expert said: “ Aldi has really dug deep with this year’s autumn wine range. It’s so refreshing to see that lesser known variants such as the Lebanese Red and Italian Vermentino will be gracing the UK’s wine aisles, so customers can get adventurous with their vino this winter. I hope my suggestions serve as a useful guide for wine fans.”

Here's the easy-to-follow guide using more well-known wines to source new favourites.

Chardonnay

Those that like medium to full-bodied whites with a lovely mineral finish should try Aldi ’s Specially Selected Cotes du Jura (£7.99). Made from 100% Chardonnay, this tipple is beautifully elegant. Mineral notes are thanks to the limestone-rich Jurassic soils in the Jura region which lies between Burgundy and The Alps in Eastern France.

Sauvignon Blanc

Fans of fresh, crisp whites that are full of citrus and lime will enjoy Aldi ’s Italian Vermentino (£5.99). Grapes grown in the sunshine of vineyards in Italy give this crisp white wine a fresh and tangy tasty.

Pinot Grigio

Those that like delicate, lightly scented wines that whisper of the Mediterranean will favour Aldi ’s Specially Selected Greco di Tufo (£6.99). Lemon yellow in colour with flavours of honeysuckle, lemon, lime and pineapple, a great example of this wonderful Italian wine.

Syrah

Fans of spicy and black fruited reds will enjoy Aldi ’s Specially Selected French Minervois (£8.99). Consisting of aromatics of blackberry, violets, spice and liquorice. Very youthful and vibrant but also textured and flavoursome.

Merlot

Wine fans that enjoy lots of ripeness and flavour should try Aldi ’s Specially Selected French Marselan (£6.49). This little-known French grape variety is a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache and boasts wonderful juicy summer pudding flavours with notes with apple, plum, raspberry and blueberries.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Enthusiasts that like structured, powerful and full-bodied reds, should sample Aldi ’s Specially Selected Lebanese Red (£7.99). Deep in colour with red and black fruit aromas; blackberry, cassis and black cherry.

Anyone looking to expand their wine expertise this autumn should head to Aldi ’s Wine School - a free, online educational hub which helps to transform wine bluffs into wine buffs with modules and tutorials.
