Aldi unveils huge Hot Cross Bun range from chilli & cheese to Bramley apple varieties

Budget supermarket chain Aldi has stepped up its Easter offering by launching its widest selection of Hot Cross Buns - with more than 10 different flavours.

A Hot Cross Bun is usually a sweet spiced creation, made with fruit, marked with a cross on the top, and traditionally eaten on Good Friday in the UK.

Traditionally, the bun marks the end of Lent and different parts have a certain meaning, including the cross representing the crucifixion of Jesus, and the spices inside signifying the spices used to embalm him at his burial.

However, there are now many varieties available and they can be enjoyed well before Easter. Here are some of Aldi's special flavours.

Aldi’s Specially Selected Luxury Fruited Hot Cross Bun (£0.99 for a pack of four) is a sweet treat, packed full of juicy fruits and perfect for any time of the day.

Specially Selected Salted Caramel and Belgian Chocolate (£1.09 for a pack of four) buns are a chocolate lover’s dream as they contain chunks of Belgian dark chocolate, swirls of salted caramel and nuggets of toffee fudge pieces.

Aldi also has a Specially Selected Raspberry and Belgian White Chocolate (£1.09 for a pack of four) variant of hot cross buns with chunks of white chocolate, raspberries and dried cranberries.

For the ultimate sweet treat, Aldi’s new and innovative Specially Selected Honeycomb Hot Cross Bun (£1.09 for a pack of four) while its Specially Selected Rhubarb and Custard (£1.09 for a pack of four) bun is infused with white chocolate chips and candied dried rhubarb.

For savoury tastes, the new Specially Selected Chilli and Cheese (£1.09 for pack of four) bun, will set pulses racing.

Or, try the Specially Selected Brioche Hot Cross Buns (£0.99 for a pack of four) for a little something extra, with enriched buttery flavours and a delightfully soft texture.

Triple Berry Hot Cross Bun (£1.09 for a pack of four) are made with succulent cranberries, lingonberries, blueberries and sultanas, while the Kentish Bramley Apple (£0.99 for a pack of four) is sure to offer a refreshing choice.

For those who like to keep it classic, mark the end of lent with Aldi’s Village Bakery Fruited Hot Cross Buns (£0.79 for a pack of four), and shoppers wanting to save cash but not sacrifice taste should try Everyday Essential Hot Cross Buns - available for £0.55 for a pack of four.

There is also the Foodie Market Free From Gluten Free (£1.69, 4 pack size) hot cross buns, which are suitable for vegans.
