Aldi to upgrade store with more parking spaces and jobs on offer

Aldi is planning to upgrade one of its Wirral stores, in moves the supermarket chain says will boost space for customers and create more car parking spaces.

The supermarket chain claims the store, on Hoylake Road in Moreton, is “over-trading” and “no longer fit for purpose".

The company plans to submit proposals for a bigger store to Wirral Council in the coming weeks, with the promise of 10 new full-time and part-time jobs in store once it has been completed.

Michael Breeze, property manager for Aldi, said: “After being a part of the local community for many years, we are delighted to announce our continued long-term investment in Moreton.

“Aldi’s existing store is over-trading and no longer fit for purpose for our loyal customers.

"More space is required to improve the customer experience and continue to deliver the high standards that our customers have come to expect.

“We want to hear from local people before we submit a planning application in the coming weeks, and encourage residents to share their views by visiting our dedicated consultation website.”

The company said the new, larger food store would allow products to be found more easily with wider aisles and more natural lighting.

The upgrade would also provide 32 additional customer car parking spaces, bringing the total to 118.

But the supermarket chain was keen to emphasise the plan’s green credentials, saying that all electricity used in store will be from renewable energy sources.

As well as this, four electric vehicle charging points will be provided and an on site heat recovery system will be created, meaning the store will be self-heating.
