Aldi to revamp 7 stores and completely remove Specialbuys aisle in all of them

From hot tubs to soft toys, paddle-boards to patio furniture - Aldi's Specialbuys are rightly celebrated for offering shoppers fantastic, if a bit random, deals.

But the supermarket has just announced a major revamp of seven of its stores that will ensure the middle-aisle of wonder will disappear.

That's after Aldi said it would update the stores to a new "Local" brad, according to the Sun .

From Thursday (June 28), the selected stores will focus on shoppers passing buy on foot - with chilled food to go and food for tonight bays near the entrance - as well as a fresh bakery section.

Larger pack sizes of other food products will also be absent.

But the biggest change to people more used to bigger branches will be the total absence of general merchandise - with things like homeware, electrical products and garden items missing.

Where the change is happening

Goodbye my friend... (BIRMINGHAM MAIL)

The seven new Local Aldi stores will consist of one new store, with six existing branches changing.

They are all in or around London, with the new branch in Camden on the site of a former Waitrose.

  • Archway
  • Kilburn
  • Tooting
  • Kingston
  • Romford
  • Eastcote

There is one other Aldi Local, after the supermarket launched the concept in Balham, South London, earlier this year.

At the time an Aldi UK spokesperson told the Retail Gazette  the store was part of a trial “to help shoppers distinguish between its smaller city stores in London and the conventional-sized Aldis”.
