Aldi to create hundreds of jobs in Scotland with multi-million pound investment

Aldi has revealed it will embark on a multi-million pound venture that will see the supermarket bosses continue their investment in Scotland.

The budget supermarket announced the plans will continue their expansion throughout the country and will see them invest £24 million and create hundreds of new jobs.

Three new stores will open across the country in 2022 - two in Aberdeen at Countesswells Road and Hareness Road, and one at Greendykes Road in Broxburn.

Aldi has said the new store openings will create an additional 150 new jobs for their local areas, which will take their total employees to nearly 3,500 by the end of the year.

The budget supermarket recently opened their 100th store in Edinburgh (Aldi)

It comes after the popular German grocer recently launched their 100th store in Scotland at Edinburgh's Hermiston Gait on November 25 2021.

Richard Holloway, Regional Managing Director for Scotland said the prospects for Aldi in 2022 were "very exciting" and that the supermarket is committed to further investment in the country following their milestone at the end of last year.

He added: "During the course of 2021, we have invested £36 million in new store locations and in the next two years we will invest an additional £55 million in new stores and extensions, with a further nine stores planned."

Since the budget supermarket first launched in Scotland 30 years ago, their expansion throughout the country has seen them grow the number of Scottish suppliers and produce on its shelves.

Last year, Aldi surpassed their target for working with over 90 Scottish producers and 450 items of locally sourced food and drink - which they plan to increase to 500 over 2022-2023.

The supermarket also announced that they will continue their support for the local Scottish brewing industry this year, as well as offering support to local food banks through their supermarket sweep initiatives.

Richard Holloway added: "“Almost three-quarters of our stores are now in our improved Project Fresh store format, providing a more customer-friendly layout with additional space and a brighter shopping experience – and we’re on track to upgrade the remainder by the end of 2023.

“We are incredibly grateful to all our colleagues and suppliers, who have continued to work tirelessly in very challenging times. We look forward to the New Year and continuing to grow and serve the people of Scotland.”
