Aldi target new stores in Dumbarton and Helensburgh

Supermarket giant Aldi has revealed that it’s aiming to open 19 new stores across Scotland - including in Dumbarton and Helensburgh.

The budget chain, which currently has 92 stores in Scotland and 880 across the UK, is hoping to have 1200 shops open across the country by 2025 - with Dumbarton and Helensburgh targeted as potential locations, on a list that also includes Finnieston, Clarkston and Dunblane.

Aldi are on the lookout for freehold sites either in town centres or on the edge of towns for their development, with each site ideally being around 1.5 acres and on a main road with space for a 20,000sq ft store and 100 parking spaces.

Ciaran Aldridge, national property director at Aldi UK, said: “Aldi is growing rapidly and we are welcoming around a million new customers into our stores every year.

“But there are also hundreds of towns across the UK where there is not an Aldi, meaning there are hundreds of thousands of people who can’t easily access the high quality, affordable food our customers love.

“We are willing to explore all opportunities, including developer-led schemes or existing retail units.”
