Aldi Supermarket Sweep winner raises more than £900 for local foodbank

The winner of Aldi's Supermarket Sweep in Glasgow's Shettleston store has raised a whopping £917.62 for a local foodbank.

After a year's hiatus for the event, lucky shopper Richard Sloan was chosen as the winner of the in-store competition and got the chance to take part in the five-minute trolley dash for charity on Monday July 19.

As well as taking home a trolley full of goodies, worth more than £450, Richard successfully found the three Scottish products on his shopping list so Aldi doubled the total value of his haul and donated the lump sum to his nominated foodbank, East Renfrewshire Larder.

Richard said: “This was such a fantastic experience, and I enjoyed every moment of it. I know that foodbanks are struggling at the moment, so at a time when they are more important than ever, I am grateful to have the chance to give something back to them. I’d like to thank the team at Aldi for running the event and also the team at Shettleston who were really helpful on the night.”

Jennifer Lawrie and Rachel Egglestone, Co-Founders of East Renfrewshire Larder, added: “We are thrilled that Richard chose East Renfrewshire Larder as the recipient of his trolley dash win and also the generosity of Aldi in doubling his win. We will be able to help so many families in need.”

Richard Holloway, Regional Managing Director for Aldi Scotland, said: “The Aldi Supermarket Sweep is a firm favourite across the country, and we are so pleased to be able to bring it back after a year hiatus. Congratulations to Richard who managed to raise an incredible £917.62 for East Renfrewshire Larder and take home a trolley full of Aldi goodies for himself.”
