Aldi staff to be given cash bonus for hard work during coronavirus pandemic

Aldi staff are to receive a cash bonus for their hard work during the coronavirus pandemic.

The budget-friendly retailer has confirmed its staff will receive a 10% bonus in their wages after their "incredible" efforts during the outbreak.

Supermarket staff were identified as key workers by the UK government, which means they must remain open to help "feed the nation".

An Aldi employee, who wished to remain anonymous, shared the statement Aldi sent to employees with the ECHO.

It reads: "Incredible, extraordinary, unprecedented.

"These are all words that describe your response to the current situation.

"We know you’ve dug deeper than ever before and as a token of our appreciation, you’ll be receiving a bonus in the form of 10% of your pay!

"The 10% bonus will apply to all hours worked between Monday 9 March and Thursday 30 April and will be paid on Tuesday 28 April for March hours and on Thursday 28 May for April hours."

Workers employed on an hourly basis will also benefit from the bonus.

The statement continues: "For hourly paid colleagues, the bonus will be calculated based on contractual hourly rate and for salaried colleagues, the bonus will be calculated on pro-rata salary from Monday 9 March to Tuesday 31 March and will apply for all of April.

"The bonus will apply to all permanent colleagues within Store Operations and Logistics at Executive Manager level and below and will be subject to tax in the same way as normal pay.

"All Regional Executive Managers (including Trainees), as well as Regional IPs are included."

The store went on to praise its staff for their "amazing" efforts:

"As Key Workers, it is essential that we work together to feed the nation.

"We think you and your efforts are nothing short of amazing and we hope that this bonus will help support you and your families during this challenging time."
