Aldi staff praised by shoppers for helping elderly during coronavirus stockpiling frenzy

Budget supermarket Aldi is being praised by shoppers after staff "personally" helped an elderly customer amid the current stockpiling frenzy.

Supermarkets and local stores are struggling to keep up with demand of supplies such as toilet paper, hand sanitiser and in some cases pasta.

After visiting her local Aldi store, one shopper took to Facebook to share a "feel good" post amid the news surrounding coronavirus.

The post said: "With all the scaremongering going on around coronavirus, I thought I should share this as a feel good post.

"This morning, on my visit to my local Aldi, I saw the staff stocking up the loo roll crate.

"There must have been at least 15 people waiting anxiously (including me) to grab a pack quick. Behind me was an elderly man with his trolley and walking stick who obviously wanted a pack for himself.

"There was two Aldi staff around loo roles who had anticipated the excitement this would cause in general public. Before the staff let the shoppers grab any rolls, they personally handed out two packs to the elderly [gentleman] waiting behind me.

"To everyone’s surprise, this gentleman very politely said 'I just want one, let someone else have the other pack.'

"His kindness puts all those to shame who thoughtlessly buy more than what they need without thinking about the others. Hats off to Aldi for having such kind staff."

Since it was shared this afternoon, the post has gained more than 3,300 likes and hundreds of comments.

In the comments, users were quick to say "well done" to Aldi. One user said: "Great story... Shows how we all should be."

Another added: " Fantastic! Feel good read, thanks for sharing!"

A third said: "Well done Aldi staff"

And, a fourth added: "Fair play Aldi staff."

The ECHO has contacted Aldi for a comment.
