Aldi sorry after shoppers miss out on Prime drink due to 'extremely high' demand

A supermarket giant has apologised after customers missed out on the highly anticipated Prime Hydration Drink

The drink was available as an Aldi 'specialbuy' on December 29, with parents and children seen queuing at stores across the North East before doors opened to try and get their hands on the drink.

Social media videos from around the UK show adults shoving children out of the way to get one of the £1.99 drinks.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “We’re sorry that some customers were unable to get their hands on this product, however, demand has been extremely high.

"We limited purchases to one of each variant per customer so that as many customers as possible had a chance to buy it.”

The supermarket did not confirm if more of the drinks would be on sale in the future.

Created by YouTube stars KSI and Logan Paul, the hydration drink has been hugely popular in the UK since launching, thanks to the millions of fans of both KSI and Logan Paul.

KSI, also a charting musician, is one of the country's most notable stars among younger people and is part of the UK YouTube group 'The Sidemen', while Logan Paul is a US YouTube star - both have millions of subscribers and fans across the globe.

Aldi announced earlier this week that it would be stocking Prime for the first time from Thursday, for just £1.99.

The supermarket chain warned that demand would be high.

Such is the popularity of the viral drink, Aldi limited purchases to "one of each variant per customer" in order to "ensure as many people as possible get the opportunity to buy the product".

The drink, which is 10% coconut water, contains electrolytes and B vitamins and BCAAs, has zero sugar and around 20 calories per bottle.
