Aldi shoppers in online ketchup war over where condiment should be stored

Aldi shoppers have been caught up in an online battle over a store cupboard essential - ketchup.

Whether you call it red sauce, tomato sauce or simply ketchup, lots of us love the stuff. But a heated debate has arisen over how to store the kitchen staple.

The Facebook group Aldi Shoppers UK has descended into madness after one member asked the divisive question “for a friend,” does ketchup go in the cupboard or in the fridge?

Over 400 Facebook members descended onto the post with some having some seriously strong opinions on the matter.

The very first commenter took the side of the cupboard saying: "If you think about where it was in the supermarket that’s where you store it."

In minutes the comment section was flooded with both angry replies and comments of agreement.

“That's before it's opened though," "in the supermarket it was not open yet!"

Others agreed: "Unopened cupboard, opened fridge," and several others thought that "all condiments go in the fridge."

"Can your friend not read the back of the bottle that clearly says once open, store in the fridge, I don’t even know why this is a debate, the instructions are clear enough," replied one impatient shopper.

According to Heinz, who holds an 80 per cent majority of the ketchup market share, the sauce is fine to be kept in the cupboard as its acidity keeps it “shelf-stable.”

The brand does recommend customers refrigerate after opening, however, “to maintain product quality.”
