Aldi shoppers frustrated over Platinum Jubilee Specialbuy ahead of store launch

The Queen's Jubilee is fast approaching and the supermarkets are pulling out all the stops to help people celebrate over the four-day bank holiday weekend. To mark the unprecedented anniversary, Aldi has announced the return of Kevin the Carrot, only this time he's been given a royal makeover.

The rather regal Kevin will be available for a limited period to mark Her Majesty’s 70 years of service. Jubilee plush toy options include the Flag Waving Kevin, as well as Union Jack Kevin. Kevin's wife Katie Katie the Carrot is also available in a Union Jack dress and the classic Queen’s Guard also features.

Aldi has also launched a root vegetable version of The Queen, which is dressed in an iconic regal purple skirt suit and her signature hair is topped with a jewelled crown. Prince Charles, who dons his traditional medal adorned scarlet tunic, and Her Majesty'ss Corgis are also available to buy in a choice of brown or grey.

The Jubilee Soft Toys are available for just £3.99 each, or £15.95 for a bundle, and were made available to pre-order online from May 22. However, many shoppers have complained they were unable to get their hands on them due to high demand.

Posting on the official Aldi UK page, one customer wrote: "I went online at 6 and it said available from 8. Refreshed at 7.40 and already 6490 in queue. Got through at 8.17 and Queen set already sold out."

While another added: "Wasted 30 minutes in a queue for them to be sold out. Sort your stock levels out Aldi. You knew these would be popular and still didn’t order enough."

Responding, Aldi apologised and explained: "We're sorry that some shoppers were unable to get their hands on these toys, however, demand has been extremely high. We limit purchases to two soft toys of each character per customer in-store and two bundles per online purchase, so as many people as possible have a chance to buy them but, as with all our Specialbuy products, these are only available while stocks last."

However, if you were unable to get your hand on the royal Jubilee plush toys, you're in luck. Aldi has announced the items will be available in all UK stores from Thursday, May 26. For more what's on and shopping stories from WalesOnline, you can get our newsletter here.
