Hundreds of Aldi supermarket shoppers engaged in a heated online debate about where ketchup should be stored.
More than 400 people chimed in to have their say on the £1 cupboard essential found in every Aldi store.
The Manchester Evening News reported the debate started on the Aldi Shoppers UK Facebook group this week, where one social media user was 'asking for a friend' on whether tomato sauce should go in the fridge.
The first social media user commenting on the post wrote "If you think about where it was in the supermarket that’s where you store it," said, then adding: "Was it in a fridge or not, problem solved x."
Others soon descended on the comments, with one angry Facebook user refuting "that's before it's opened though" and "in the supermarket it was not open yet !"
"Can your friend not read the back of the bottle that clearly says once open store in the fridge, I don’t even know why this is a debate, the instructions are clear enough," replied one impatient shopper.
"Unopened cupboard, opened fridge," advised one straight-to-the-point shopper, and several others agreed "all condiments go in the fridge."
This sparked a whole new sub-genre of the ketchup argument, which came down to a matter of taste - according to My London.
"I hate it in the fridge, I keep it in the cupboard, it doesn't last long enough to go off in my house," replied one person.
"Well I've always kept mine in the cupboard and not had food poisoning yet so guess I'll keep it that way as I have done for 20yrs," said another.
According to an official Heinz statement on the matter, 'because of its natural acidity, Heinz Ketchup is shelf-stable'.
However, they do recommend customers refrigerate after opening 'to maintain product quality'.
