Aldi shoppers and the items they won't buy from the supermarket chain

The nation's love affair with budget supermarket stores Aldi and Lidl is well documented.

And they may be budget stores but they've also been in the running and winners of some top food and drink tasting trials - Aldi, for instance currently has an array of Good Housekeeping Food Awards for 2021 tucked under its belt while Lidl boasts "over 300 awards and accreditations for our alcohol products" amongst its accolades.

But while shoppers and tasters certainly have their favourites, there are some things that shopper say they avoid, reported Birmingham Live.

Fans on the Aldi UK Shoppers Facebook group regularly share their reviews of Aldi items and when one shopper asked: "I know we all love Aldi but is there anything in there that you don't like or won't buy?", shoppers replied in their hundreds and a few things came up over and over again.

Fresh fruit was highlighted by shoppers, with many saying 'it doesn't last'.

"Soft fruit like strawberries and raspberries go off too quickly," one shopper wrote, with another adding: "Their fruit, especially their bananas, go mouldy so quick."

Another food item that shoppers made clear they didn't like was the gravy granules.

"The gravy! I just can't get on with it!" said one shopper, adding: "I have to have Bisto."

While another said: "It's rank!" and a third wrote: "I love most products but I'm not a fan of the gravy!"

Everyone has a favourite when it comes to washing detergent and softeners but Aldi's own fabric softener was not hailed as a favourite by some of the supermarket's regulars.

"The washing softener, I really really wanted to like it but I don't. They smell lovely in the bottle but that’s about it."

Another shopper agreed, writing: "It's too watery!" with a third adding bluntly: "The fabric softener is awful!"

Meat was another point of contention.

"Not sure if it's just me but their meat barely lasts a couple of days in the fridge anymore," one shopper noted. "Usually I portion it all out and freeze when home but I didn't the last time and it was stinking when I opened it up, it was only in there for two days max!"

Others were really positive, saying: "I've never had a problem with the meat, I always buy it from Aldi!"

"I love Aldi meat. Beef, steak mince, chicken etc. Never had a problem," someone else commented. "I think some people just want to moan."
