Aldi shopper shares simple trick to slow down supermarket cashiers as you pack

Trying to pack away a weekly shop as checkout staff beep items through at super-speed can be a frantic challenge.

Supermarket staff have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to ensure people can buy essentials, and those at Aldi are no exception.

However, many regular customers have come to dread the packing process, struggling to keep up with the rapid pace at which items pile up at the bagging point.

There have even been reports previously of staff being set time targets to ensure customers can be in and out as quickly as possible, keeping queues moving.

Aldi shops usually have packing bays next to the windows, beyond the tills, where shoppers can be more leisurely with bagging up their haul.

However, one shopper has now shared a simple trick to slow down cashiers at the checkout, the Mirror reports.

While it won't make you popular with the shoppers waiting in the queue behind you - and probably not the staff either - it could make the customer experience less overwhelming.

A video of the trick has been viewed tens of thousands of times on TikTok after it was posted by @ciaranelliottwalm, who described it as a "life hack".

While putting his shopping on the belt, he spreads it out so staff can't scan everything so quickly.

He explained: "Top tip: spread all your shopping out and it gives you time to bag it so they don't throw it at you."

Many people were impressed by the simplicity of the tip, with one commenter describing it as "genius".

Another added: "Very good, I'll use this next time."

A third commented: "This is the best life hack I've ever seen".

But some shoppers admitted they like the speed, while one supermarket worker said it wouldn't slow them down.

She commented: "Hahhaa people think this works, we'll just scan faster."

Another asked: "Where's the fun in that? I like to pack as fast as they scan, it's a game."

But one shopper said she simply asks the cashiers to slow down.

Aldi has previously explained the the quick pace helps keeps prices low due to the time efficiency.

One TikTok viewer warned: "It's cheap because they scan quickly and have less people working.

"Use the packing bench. Shop elsewhere if you don't like it."
