Aldi shopper fuming after finding pigeon poo all over shopping trolleys

A supermarket shopper was disgusted when he went to use a trolley from his local Aldi and found it smothered in pigeon poo.

The customer, who does not want to be named, says he contacted the head office of Aldi with concerns about their Beverley Road store back in March, after taking photos of the bird droppings-covered trolleys and baby seats.

After confirmation from the budget supermarket that it would be installing anti-pigeon spikes, he was angry to see that on July 6 trolleys - including child seats - were covered in poo again.

“In March I noticed a problem with pigeons roosting over the trolley [area] with some poo on the trolleys,” said the man, who shops at the store weekly, reports Hull Live .

“I left it a few weeks to see if staff would rectify it, but they didn’t so I made a complaint about it.”

The man said a spokesman for the store contacted him and apologised, saying the store would “have to install anti-pigeon spikes above the trolleys”.

“I was told staff would ensure the trolleys were cleaned daily, but a few weeks later it was still not rectified”, he said.

“I got back in touch with them and they gave me some sob story about not having hoses long enough to reach.

“Since then the pigeon poo had gone from the trolleys, but it was still all over the floor.

“Then, when I visited today (July 6) I saw trolleys with poo on them, so that’s why I publicly tweeted Aldi with the pictures. I have given them plenty of chance to rectify this, and after months they still haven’t.

An Aldi spokesman said the issue was being looked into and would be resolved soon.

He said: “Our trolleys are cleaned daily and we are continuing to explore other ways of resolving this as soon as possible.”
