Aldi shopper explains how she feeds family of four for £30 a week

A woman who does all her shopping at Aldi has shared the secrets of how she feeds a family of four for just £30 a week.

Fellow Aldi shoppers said that even with the discount supermarket's low prices their weekly food budget could be well over £100.

But crafty shopper, Sam Wheatley taking to the Aldi UK Shoppers Facebook group, explained how it can be done.

Sam said it costs her just £30 a week to feed two adults and two children, reporting BirminghamLive.

She said the key secret is her meal plan - setting out what she is going to cook for the week, then buying just what she needs.

Sam wrote: "I literally only buy what we are eating that week, no extra stuff. We don’t have crisps or snacky stuff here."

Sam said as well as planning every meal she does batch cooking from scratch, freezing meals so they last.

She wrote: "I cook from scratch except for maybe once or twice a week when it’s turkey drummers for dinner (my lazy day).

"We have roasts, bbq pork, lasagna, spag bol, chicken enchiladas, all sorts of stuff."

Shoppers said they were amazed, and Sam shared images of her meal plan and receipts, saying it cost them £100 to £120 a week.

Sam wasn't the only group member who swore by meal planning to cut down on their spending.

Trudie Baker said that she had managed to lower her weekly shop significantly, sharing her top tip.

"Meal planner!" she wrote. "We've gone from £60/£80 per week to £35/£45. It's a game changer. That's for two adults!"
