Aldi shopper criticised after sharing cheeky trick to slow down checkout staff

An Aldi customer has been slammed online after sharing a tip on how to slow down the budget supermarket's checkout staff.

Aldi is known for its very efficient staff at its tills, and many shoppers have revealed that they get anxious when they are unable to keep up with the pace at the till.

People have therefore began sharing ideas in order to slow the process down so that they do not feel like they are being rushed by staff or customers behind them in the queue.

As reported by the Mirror, tips include purposefully obstructing product barcodes but scrunching them up, and hastily putting all of the shopping back in the basket or trolley in order to sort it properly once out of the store.

One customer has been met with ire online however after sharing his unorthodox suggestion, with some even suggesting he should be banned from the retailer.

In a photo shared to an Aldi Facebook group, products can be seen spaced far apart on the conveyor belt by the checkout, forcing the member of staff to scan them slowly one at a time as they reach the till.

The post was was captioned: "In your face Aldi. Just so we got time to pack."

Since posting, the man's tip has divided opinion in the comment section, as people were torn over whether the tactic was genius or infuriating.

One person responded to say: "People like you packing their bag at the register is so annoying and selfish.

"Try packing at the bench like everyone else," as reported by News.com.au.

Another snapped back: "I despise when people do this."

But not everyone was so critical, as others thanked them for sharing the tip and even suggested they would try it themselves next time they visit the shop.

One wrote: "Ohhhh I love it! Packing at Aldi should be an Olympic sport!"

And a second said: "Round of applause – this is genius."

However, two members of the facebook group who said they work at Aldi revealed that it's a trick many customers try to employ - and they have their own methods to overcome it.

One staff member replied: "I have customers do this, I just put my arm up to move the belt, let it all build up then start scanning."

And another said they do exactly the same, writing: "When I worked at Aldi and people did this, I would hold the first item back from the sensor with my arm until everything piled up."
