Aldi shares recipe for cloud bread and shoppers are all saying the same thing

Aldi shoppers were left in disgust after the budget supermarket shared a recipe on their official Facebook.

Showcasing cloud bread, Aldi's post featured a video with purple bread and the instructions on how to make it.

Cloud bread is made by whisking egg whites, adding sugar and cornflower, vanilla extract and you could even add in food colouring.

In the video Aldi shared, red and blue food colouring was mixed together to create a muted purple colour.

It was then put in the oven, resulting in a golden crust and then an airy colourful centre.

They wrote: Like eating a cloud. Have you tried making cloud bread?

The post gathered hundreds of comments and shares but not everyone saw the appeal of the so-called bread.

One commented: "Saddness on a baking tray"

"Looks revolting" A disgusted shopper said.

It reminded others of things you'd find in the home with one saying: "Looks like a bath sponge"

"Yaaaay loft insulation by the batch", another added.

The unusual recipe got folk questioning if it is actually bread.

"That’s not bread, it’s some sort of hell meringue."

One person pointed out the technicalities: "Nonsense. Bread is a baked food made of flour, water and usually yeast."

But others stood up for the purple food, informing the put off shoppers that the so-called bread is used as an alternative.

"Why is everyone so negative? Have any of you tried it? I think it would be fun to try with the kids. Cheer up people! It's just an ad!!!!!!" One interjected.

A toast loving shopper added: "It's used as a carb free bread replacement in special diets, but without the blue colour and vanilla. Be thankful you can eat wheat, I would cry if I could never eat toast again."

"Had this a few years ago, it’s absolutely gorgeous" a third wrote.

Carb free cloud bread originated from the 1970s through the Atkins diet but has recently come back into the spotlight with TikTok videos showing off the airy pastel coloured snack.
