Aldi set to build new store in 'multi-million pound investment' in Merseyside borough

Aldi is set to redevelop one of its Merseyside stores in a “multi-million pound investment”, which it believes will “transform the shopping experience” of customers.

Under plans submitted to Wirral Council , Aldi’s store just off Woodchurch Road, in Prenton, Wirral , will be demolished before the new, more modern store is built.

Aldi hopes the larger store will improve customers' experiences, with a better layout including wider aisles, more natural lighting and a "Food to Go" section at the front of the store.

George Brown, regional property director for Aldi, said: “After being a part of the local community for many years, we are delighted to announce our continued long-term investment in Prenton.

“Following a comprehensive survey of the existing 40-year-old building, it is clear that it is no longer fit for purpose.

“We have therefore drawn up plans to redevelop the site and provide a modern, efficient building which will provide our customers with a great shopping experience."

“We want to hear from local people and encourage residents to visit the existing Woodchurch Road store to find out more.”

If approved by Wirral Council, the new food store will have more parking spaces and more space for British meat products than the current one.

It will also contain a new area for health and beauty products.

The plans will see 10 full-time and part-time jobs created in store, and further job opportunities via construction and the supply chain.
