Aldi sells out of famous rattan egg chair as outdoor socialising resumes

Aldi’s famously popular egg chair has sold out just minutes after stock was refreshed, as shoppers prepare for a season of outdoor socialising.

On 29 March, people in England were permitted to meet outdoors again in groups of six or less, including in private gardens and on balconies.

As a result, garden furniture has surged in popularity across the country, and Aldi’s egg chair is no different.

The rattan egg chair comes with a set of grey cushions and hangs from a silver chain on an iron frame.

On Sunday, as stock of the egg chair was replenished, thousands of shoppers were placed in a virtual queue as they tried to get their hands on one.

A message on Aldi’s website told shoppers: “We’re very sorry, but there are currently lots of people trying to access the Aldi website.

“We’ve automatically placed you in a queue. Don’t worry about refreshing – this page will update automatically as soon as you can enter the site.”

However, after getting onto the website, many shoppers found that the chair had already sold out.

On Twitter, one person who got onto the site only to find the chair had sold out wrote: “What do I do now...? I’ve queued for 40 minutes and it’s not ready?! #Aldi How the hell have I got caught up it the Aldi Egg Chair hysteria?!”

Another person who succeeded in purchasing a chair wrote: “Most stressful Easter egg hunt ever! But GOT ONE!!”

One user wrote that they woke up at 4am purely in the hope of getting a chair.

Another person compared buying an egg chair to winning the lottery.

Currently, the Aldi website states that more egg chairs will be restocked in the coming weeks and invites shoppers to subscribe to a newsletter for updates.
