Aldi selling full school uniform for £4 as it undercuts rival Lidl

Supermarkets Aldi and Lidl are once again battling it out to become the high street bargain champions of school uniform.

With Lidl offering parents the chance to snap up a full uniform for £4.50, Aldi has gone one better, with a bundle for just £4.

Lidl's version includes a twin pack of polo shirts for £1.75, trousers, shorts or skirt for £1.75 and a round neck sweatshirt for £1.

Aldi's price cut brings its prices to just 50p for a round neck jumper, £1.75 for two polo shirts and £1.75 for trousers or a skirt.

Lidl’s kit is available in stores from Thursday, August 6, while Aldi's is online from Sunday, August 9 and in stores from Thursday, August 13.

Both chains are bracing themselves for a sell out as parents race to stock up on the bargains before popular sizes are snapped up.

According to a study, parents buy an average of 38 pieces of school kit each year from coats and shoes to sports gear and accessories and spend an average of £500 for two children.

It is estimated kitting out kids from top to toe from the budget chains’ Back to School ranges works out 10 times cheaper at £50.

As well as the basics, their ranges include everything from school socks and sports shorts, to pumps, trainers and waterproof jackets.
