Aldi respond to backlash over 'ridiculous' prices of Kevin The Carrot on eBay'

Aldi say they are disappointed after Kevin the Carrot toys were spotted being sold on eBay for more than four times their retail value.

Customers were left impatient when the toys went on sale online this weekend, with many being forced to wait in website queues of thousands as people battled it out to bag themselves one of the plushes.

Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, some people have been profiting from the long waiting times and sell-out success of the collection by listing items on eBay for ridiculous prices - with some items being offered up for over five times their original RRP.

Shoppers have since taken to Twitter to slam the prices, and it's safe to say people are fuming.

Responding to the news, one angry shopper said: "I am sick of seeing them for inflated prices on Facebook and eBay especially as they are sold to help charity, come on Aldi make more so it stops this and the charity makes more."

Replying to the tweet, Aldi's official Twitter account wrote: "Hi Kay - yes we are also disappointed that a small number of people are looking to profit from a good cause. Unfortunately, we cannot control how the toys are used after they are purchased."

Somebody else tweeted, saying: "Okay I love #KevinTheCarrot but holy cr*p the ones bulk buying the toys and selling them like this is a little scary."

Searching on eBay it doesn't take long to spot items from the Kevin the Carrot range being sold for inflated prices.

Giant plushes are currently being listed for £49.99, despite costing £19.99 each from Aldi.

Kevin and Katie Carrot toys have been listed for £23.99, despite costing £3.99 individually.

Aldi won't be re-stocking items online, but they will go on sale in stores across the UK on Thursday November 28.

However, following the success of the online sale, if you do want to get your hands on one of the plushes, you're advised to get to your nearest Aldi supermarket as early as possible, as queues are expected.

Manchester Evening News has contacted Aldi for comment.
