Aldi Kevin the Carrot fans 'disgusted' as toys on eBay for 5 times the price

Aldi's super-popular Kevin the Carrot toys sold out online in what felt like record time - only to appear on eBay moments later.

The German retailer limited customers to two purchases each online, but that hasn't stopped people buying them only to immediately quadruple the price they paid and list them for re-sale.

Only character bundles were available during Sunday's online pre-order - where you could pick up the whole family for £11.97, or add in Russell Sprout and Tiny Tom for £8 more.

But, already, people are splitting them up and selling them on eBay for almost five time the price they will be in store on Thursday.

The Mirror has seen the Carrot children - Kevin, Chantenay and Jasper - on sale for £19.29. That's almost five times the price they will be in store.

While a single Kevin - with a list price of £3.99 - is being sold for four times as much at £15.99.

And customers are disgusted.

Rosemary Willoughby told Mirror Online: "I happened to go on eBay and there were the soft toys Kevin and Katie on sale for nearly three times the price."

She added: "How was this allowed to happen when they were not supposed to have been released l am disgusted with Aldi."

Maureen Keyme added: "Never got toys as all sold out online , found lots on eBay at much higher prices people should be ashamed as is for charity and will be lot disappointed kids because of some people greed."

Responding to questions about the toys on Facebook , Aldi said: "We are disappointed that a small number of people are looking to profit from a good cause.

"Unfortunately, we cannot control how the toys are used after they are purchased.

"We believe there were a small number of opportunists advertising the toys ahead of time in the hope they can pick one up in store."
