Aldi's new rules and opening times to ensure NHS staff and emergency workers avoid the queues

Supermarket giant Aldi has gone a step further in showing its thanks to NHS and emergency service workers in news announced this morning.

The retailer has confirmed that from today (Saturday, March 28) eligible workers will no longer be expecting to queue at its stores, but instead will get priority at all times.

This means, the retailer's initial plan of giving priority to these key workers on Sunday mornings has now been extended.

From today, where store workers are limiting the number of customers in store, any emergency workers with a relevant form of ID will be allowed to enter the store as soon as social distancing guidelines permit.

The move means that those who may be finding it hard to shop for groceries due to working long shifts to protect others will not have to wait in queues outside the store before being able to buy what they need.

All Aldi asks is that workers in those emergency services bring a form of ID, such as an NHS card, whenever they come to store.

Other supermarkets across the country are also giving priority to NHS staff including Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons.

However, at the time of publication, Aldi is the only supermarket to ban queuing and offer priority to NHS and emergency service workers all week.
