Aldi's lovely Christmas gesture to staff as 'thank you' for working through coronavirus pandemic

Aldi is one of the essential chains which has been open all year amid the pandemic – and now its workers are being rewarded.

The German retailer is planning to give its staff a 10 per cent bonus this Christmas.

According to Birmingham Live, bosses at Aldi want to treat their staff and say thank you for working throughout the tough times.

All store employees and distribution workers will receive the bonus next month ahead of Christmas Day.

Giles Hurley, Aldi chief executive, said: "This year has been a difficult one for so many and our colleagues have worked tirelessly to ensure the nation continues have access to high quality affordable food.

"This bonus is a gesture of our appreciation for our amazing Aldi colleagues who have shown incredible resilience and dedication throughout 2020."

It's believed that around 35,000 employees will qualify for the incentive which is almost certainly needed ahead of the festive period.

Aldi was one of the few essential businesses that was allowed to stay open amid the pandemic with people queuing outside to go into the store. The retailer was also one of the first to introduce a traffic light system to manage the number of shoppers in the store.
