The delayed Tokyo Olympics Games finally begins next week and budget retailer Aldi is introducing another trendy Japanese favourite to its shelves.
Refreshingly fragrant Sawanotsuru Saké (£4.99) will be arriving in-store from July 22, so shoppers can indulge in a flavour of Japan while tuning in to the Games.
The podium-topping beverage is more than three times cheaper than comparable sized bottles at Selfridges & Co, and the chain is confident it will be a gold medal winner with customers.
Saké is the national alcoholic drink in Japan and Aldi’s version comes from the famous saké-producing region Nada-Ku, Kobe.
Made from fermented rice, it’s an adventurous alternative to dry white wine, with a refreshing, clean and delicate taste. Traditionally served warm, it can also be enjoyed chilled over ice, or as a base to brighten any summer cocktail.
The drink not only pairs superbly with traditional Asian cuisine such as sushi, but it’s also a great beverage to accompany non-Japanese foods – including fish and chips. The sweetness and freshness of Saké works to match wonderfully with this great British classic.
However, shoppers need to get in there quick, as with all special buys – once it’s gone, it’s gone.
