Aldi's fakeaway pastries to challenge Greggs in battle of the bakes

Low-cost supermarket Aldi is taking on bakery chain Greggs in a high street snack attack.

The budget grocery retailer has just launched its answer to the UK's flaky favourite – the Sausage & Bean Melt - to rival the popular takeaway outfit.

Aldi's home-baked treat comes in at just 85p for a pack of two and is 72 per cent cheaper than the similar Greggs offering which retails from £1.50.

Also joining the fakeaway menu selection is a Cheese & Onion Bake – sauteed onions and mature cheddar cheese wrapped in a pastry parcel at 85p for a two-pack.

Both items need to be baked for 25 minutes and are ideal for an on-the-go snack.

Aldi has launched the new product following the success of its Bacon & Cheese Wrap (£1.39, 194g), which landed on shelf in October after fans went wild recreating their own versions at home using Aldi ingredients.

The new fakeaway pastry selection is available now at Aldi stores across the UK.
