Aldi revealed as the cheapest supermarket for everyday shopping

It has been revealed that shoppers can save almost £5 by buying a basket of goods from Aldi, rather than other supermarkets.

Budget store Aldi has been named the best store for budget shopping in a weekly supermarket poll by The Grocer.

The poll found that Aldi is cheaper than the rival shops, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose, when comparing 33 ‘staple items’.

The Mirror reported that the survey found Aldi's total of £36.73 was £4.47 cheaper than runner-up Asda.

The report showed that Asda was the only supermarket to get remotely close to Aldi on price.

In third place, Morrisons was £8.71 more expensive at £45.44 followed by Tesco on £47.19 and Sainsbury's on £47.71.

Julie Ashfield, at Aldi said: "This result shows that yet again we are Britain’s lowest-priced supermarket, which is a key reason why more than a million new shoppers have switched to Aldi from more expensive supermarkets during the last 12 months.

"We’re continuing to work hard to keep prices low for our customers, as well as expanding our store network to reach even more shoppers."
