Aldi has removed thousands of kilos of vegetables after a customer complained that she had found part of a rat in one bag of frozen mixed greens.
Aldi said in a statement that it had removed the product from sale “to prevent any further issues”.
“We have suspended all orders from this production site whilst we investigate this matter,” the budget supermarket said.
It came after Aldi customer Pat Batemen complained to the budget supermarket chain and was offered £30 compensation, a figure she said was later increased to £500.
“We had eaten almost all of the bag before we saw it - and what’s even worse - I fed it to my youngest granddaughter,” Ms Bateman told The Sun.
“It was nearly empty so that’s why I spotted something that looked out of place in the bottom of the bag,” she said.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I pulled it out. It just looked like half a rat. It had fur on it. I showed my husband and because it was frozen we left it to defrost before taking another look at it.”
In December Aldi, Co-op and Morrisons recalled chicken wraps over fears they may contain metal splinters.
The wraps, produced by Greencore, passed safety screening checks, however the precautionary measure was taken due to concerns that there may have been contaminants in the mayonnaise.
The Food Standards Agency warned the public not to consume the wraps.
