Aldi recalls some Roosters chicken products which may contain salmonella

Budget supermarket giant Aldi is recalling some of its chicken products after it was discovered some of them may contain salmonella bacteria.

Certain batches of Aldi's Roosters Southern Fried Poppin' Chicken and Breaded Poppin' Chicken products are being recalled over food poisoning fears.

People are being urged to avoid eating the products and instead return them to the store in which they were purchased from.

A receipt is not required and a full refund will be given.

All batches in question should have the same best before date of 25/05/2022.

The affected batch codes are: L14720, L14820, L14920, L15020, L15120, L15320 and L16020.

Aldi said: "We are recalling specific batches of these products due to the possible presence of salmonella.

"Customers are advised not to eat this product and return it to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation."

Salmonella can cause severe abdominal pain and diarrhoea that lasts for a lengthy period.

The NHS says: "Salmonella infection is caused by a family of germs (bacteria) that live in the gut of many birds and animals.

"It is therefore present in foods leading to human gut infections. The diarrhoea that results can be severe lasting several days.

"Cases are usually only seen in individuals or their families but can become larger outbreaks. It affects all ages but can be more severe in the very young or elderly, or those in hospital."
