Aldi recalls popular baby product over safety issue that could lead to injury

Supermarket giant Aldi is recalling certain units of a popular baby product sold in Irish stores over safety fears.

The chain issued a voluntary recall for one type of baby carrier that is popular with customers.

The manufacturer of the Adverturidge Hiking Baby Carrier identified an issue that could lead to one part of the product failing.

Ireland's Competition and Consumer Protection Commission notified consumers of the recall on Wednesday.

The commission said: "Aldi Stores (Ireland) Limited is carrying out a voluntary recall of the Adventuridge Hiking Baby Carrier.

"A safety issue has been identified whereby a plastic washer that secures the child seat to the adult shoulder and waist straps may fail, and as a result the child is less secure and may fall.

"There have been no reports of injuries to date."

Around 1,070 units of the baby carrier have been sold in Ireland to date.

Aldi UK has also issued an alert about the problem, stating: "We are recalling this product because our supplier has identified that a component may fail on a small number of carriers."

The retailer has apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused.

People who believe they may have purchased one of these products are advised to stop using it immediately and return to their local Aldi store for a full refund.

The product code of the impacted baby carriers is 804707, while the barcode is 4088500636642 Blue.
