Aldi raises £27,000 for NHS Charities Together and Teenage Cancer Trust

Aldi has raised £27,000 for NHS Charities Together and Teenage Cancer Trust auctioning limited-edition Kevin and Katie the Carrot soft toys - with one toy selling for a staggering £142.

Almost 11,000 bids were placed on eBay to purchase the doctor and nurse themed soft toys.

500 of the supermarket’s famous plush toys were auctioned by to raise funds to support the ongoing amazing work of NHS and TCT staff.

Ellie Orton, Chief Executive of NHS Charities Together said: “We’re so thrilled the Kevin and Katie Carrot toy auction has been so popular.

"We are so grateful to Aldi for choosing us as one of the beneficiaries of the charity auction and to the public for their generosity.

"The money raised will help us continue to support NHS workers, volunteer and patients at the centre of this crisis.”

Kate Collins, Chief Executive of Teenage Cancer Trust said: “It’s been a turbulent and isolating year for us all, but more so than ever for young people with cancer, many of whom are still particularly at risk from coronavirus.

"Aldi’s continued support for Teenage Cancer Trust has made it possible for us to continue to make sure young people do not face cancer alone, and we cannot thank them enough.”

The British public threw their weight behind the fundraising push, with a bidding frenzy resulting in one toy selling for almost 3,458% more than the face value of Aldi’s ‘standard’ Kevin and Katies, which are on sale in Aldi stores for just £3.99.
