Aldi raid: Cash stolen after ATM is 'attacked'

A crime scene remains in place and enquiries are ongoing.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said: "We’re seeking witnesses and CCTV footage after a burglary in the early hours of this morning (Monday, February 8).

"At approximately 2am this morning we were called to a supermarket in Thornbury after entry had been forced to Aldi’s store, in Horseshoe Lane.

The supermarket underwent a major refurbishment last year, with the new layout aimed to make it easier for customers to shop.

Police said the break-in didn't appear to be linked with the two armed robberies that have happened in Yate in the past 24 hours, with a firearm being sighted in one.

Anyone who saw what happened, or can assist with the investigation, is asked to call 101 and give the call-handler reference 5221027464.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
