Aldi planning to open new store just north of Bristol

Supermarket chain Aldi has announced it plans to open a new store in Yate.

The UK’s fifth largest supermarket chain says it plans to add to the 920 stores it already has in the UK, by opening 100 new stores over the next two years.

The £1.3 billion investment will see an average of one new store per week open by 2023.

One of the new stores is planned to land just north of Bristol in Yate.

The supermarket says it is looking for sites that are big enough to accommodate a 20,000 sq ft store and around 100 dedicated parking spaces, preferably on a prominent main road and with good visibility and access.

Richard Thornton, communications director at Aldi UK, said: “Our focus is on expanding our store estate, making sure Aldi is accessible to as many of these new shoppers across the country as possible.

"Looking ahead, we are excited to provide millions of new customers with access to Aldi’s award-winning quality and unbeatable value as we create even more places and more ways to shop with us.”

As well as expanding its locations across the UK, Aldi has announced plans to increase the amount of food and drink it buys from British suppliers over the next five years by £3.5bn a year.

The supermarket is also committed to making changes to be Fairer, Greener and Healthier for customers, society and the environment.
