Aldi outlines plans for 13 new stores across Nottinghamshire

Supermarket giant Aldi has identified 13 new locations for new stores across Nottinghamshire as part of its expansion drive.

Among the towns and suburbs it hopes to open in are West Bridgford, Radcliffe-on-Trent, and Lenton. It also wants to build a new store in Retford.

The UK's fifth largest supermarket, which currently has more than 880 stores, today revealed the new locations where it is looking for freehold town-centre or edge-of-centre sites suitable for development as it targets having 1,200 stores open by 2025.

It is looking for 1.5 acre sites to accommodate a 20,000 sq ft store with around 100 parking spaces, ideally on a prominent main road and with good visibility and access.

Ciaran Aldridge, National Property Director at Aldi UK, said: “Aldi is growing rapidly and we are welcoming around a million new customers into our stores every year.

“But there are also hundreds of towns across the UK where there is not an Aldi, meaning there are hundreds of thousands of people who can’t easily access the high quality, affordable food our customers love.

“We are willing to explore all opportunities, including developer-led schemes or existing retail units.”

The budget chain is due to open a new store in October 2020 in Edwalton and has recently opened in Stapleford.

A new £64 million distribution centre opened on the Notts, Leicestershire and Derbyshire border earlier this year.

Locations it is targeting in Nottinghamshire are:

Beeston

Bilborough

Giltbrook/Eastwood

Lenton

Radcliffe-on-Trent

Southwell

Thorneywood

Toton

West Bridgford

Wollaton

Market Warsop

Retford

Ollerton
