Aldi named fruit and vegetable retailer of the year

Aldi has been named multiple fruit and vegetable retailer of the year by the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC).

Britain’s fifth-largest supermarket took home the trophy at the FPC Fresh Awards earlier this month, retaining its position for the fifth time since 2014.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Corporate Buying at Aldi, said: “Fresh, affordable fruit and veg takes a starring role at Aldi and many of our customers come to us because they can trust that not only will they be getting unbeatable prices, but products of the highest quality.”

Aldi announced plans last year to increase the amount it spends with British suppliers by a further £3.5 billion over the next five years as it continues to ensure the best quality for its customers.

The FPC Fresh awards were voted for by members of the FPC Board, made up of non-executive directors from across the fresh produce sector.

The win closely follows Aldi being confirmed as the cheapest supermarket by trade magazine The Grocer earlier this month. Its independent price comparison survey looked at the cost of 33 everyday items, showing that the Big Four supermarkets are 18% more expensive than Aldi.
