Aldi modifies shopping restrictions introduced during coronavirus stockpiling frenzy

Discount supermarket chain Aldi has announced it is easing the shopping restrictions placed on the majority of its items.

The low-cost supermarket had started to ration the number of items customers could purchase with stores under pressure to keep stock maintained during the early stages of the coronavirus lockdown.

Restrictions meant that customers could only purchase four of each food item, two packs of nappies or other baby products, and four units of spirits or wine.

Bosses have now revealed that these limits will be modified across all stores in the UK.

Restrictions are as below:

Four per customer

  • Antibacterial wipes
  • Handwash and soap
  • Shower gel
  • Bleach
  • Toilet tissue, kitchen roll and tissues
  • Nappies
  • Pasta
  • Canned tomatoes, canned beans and sausages
  • Part baked bread
  • Beers, wines and spirits

Two per customer

  • Antibacterial hand gel
  • UHT milk
  • Baby formula

The policy is designed to encourage shoppers to buy only what they need and that the move will make it easier for others to buy for vulnerable and those who are self-isolating.
