Aldi makes major decision on supermarket near Nottingham's Victoria Centre

A major Aldi supermarket in the city centre will close next month, the retailer has said.

The German retailer said the store, on the corner of the A60 Huntingdon Street and Union Road, was no longer part of its long-term plan.

An Aldi spokeswoman said: “We will be closing our Huntingdon Street store on 1st August as the site is no longer suitable for our long term requirements.

"Our valued customers will be welcome at our nearby Aldi Basford, Daleside Road and Radford Boulevard stores, and all our amazing colleagues will also be relocated to nearby stores.”

The retailer has opened a store in the last year in Top Valley and in Edwalton - and the firm is also consulting over opening a supermarket in West Bridgford.

A new store has recently been given the green light to open off the A612 Colwick Loop Road.

Aldi recently released a list of locations where it hopes to open across the county in the future.
