Aldi Loch Lomond beer recalled after cans of ale suddenly explode

Customers have told how cans of from a Scottish brewery suddenly exploded.

Loch Lomond Brewery have recalled three types of pale ale after complaints.

Postman Danny Lloyd had 15 cans of beer, which is sold in Lidl , delivered to his home.

Danny, 30, of Hemel Hemstead, Hertfordshire, said: “The first couple of cans were fine but then others were really hard to pour. They tasted OK, just a bit fizzy.

“A few weeks ago, my girlfriend, who was home alone at the time, was watching TV when she heard an explosion coming from under the stairs.

“She came across one can of beer that had exploded at the top.”

On Twitter, customer @PortugalNan posted a picture of a can which shows the lid blown off.

They wrote: “I was driving home from work with a can in the car but then this happened.

“The car is now covered in IPA but the worst part is there is no beer for me tonight.”

Bosses at the brewery in Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, have since issued a product recall, blaming over-carbonation.

Managing director Fiona MacEachern said: “We were contacted by a small number of customers who had reported some of these cans were popping.

“We made the decision to recall two beers plus another as a precaution.

“We’ve put in place measures in the brewery to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

"We would advise all customers who have purchased these beers to place them in a plastic bag, chill thoroughly and return to their Lidl store.”
