Aldi, Lidl, John Lewis and M&S - These Nottinghamshire retailers will be closed on Boxing Day

Everyone knows the best way to shake off that Christmas hangover is with a bit of retail therapy.

Yep, after stuffing ourselves silly with pigs in blankets and mulled wine, there’s only one thing to do on Boxing Day – go shopping in the sales.

But some shops are choosing to opt out of the tradition and close their days on the shopping holiday.

Major retailers say closing on December 26 gives their hard-working staff more time with their families over the holidays.

If you were planning on hitting the high street this Boxing Day, we've listed the big shops you can expect to find closed.

Here are some of the major retailers that will be closed in Nottinghamshire on Boxing Day in 2019.

John Lewis

Department store John Lewis - along with sister store Waitrose - closes all its branches on Boxing Day every year.

The retailer has long said this is to give their hard-working partners a rest over the holidays.

Last year, shoppers were able to shop the store's clearance sale online from Christmas Eve - so keep an eye on the website if you want to grab any bargains early.

Home Bargains

Home Bargains is another retailer that will stay closed on Boxing Day this year.

The homewares store will give its 22,000 staff around the country the day off to spend time with their families.

Wickes

DIY store Wickes will also close all of its branches on 26 December to give staff a break.

Its Showroom Design team will still be accessible from 11am to 5pm on Boxing Day through its customer service helpline over the phone.

Lidl

Lidl will also close all of its stores outside of the M25 on Boxing Day.

Stores across the rest of country will reopen on December 27.

Aldi

Budget supermarket Aldi will once again keep its doors closed to shoppers on Boxing Day.

You could still bag some bargains from the Special Buys range online, though.

M&S Simply Food

While M&S' larger stores will be open for business on Boxing Day, the retailer's Simply Food branches will mostly be closed.

Simply Food stores set to close include those in West Bridgford, Netherfield, and Chilwell.

Homebase

Homebase is the latest store to announce plans to remain closed on Boxing Day.

While many businesses see the day after Christmas Day as the perfect way to start the post festive sales period, the DIY and gardening retailer has decided to put its staff first, giving workers a two-day break.
