Aldi launches first click and collect service in Wales

German supermarket discount chain has launched its first click and collect service in Wales.

While Aldi, along with fellow German firm Lidl, has significantly increased market share in the UK over recent years, its online offer has lagged behind rivals.

Now as part of a UK-wide pilot it has launched a click and collect service at its Caerphilly Road store in Cardiff, with pre-booked one hour collection slots availble.

It represent the 14th Aldi store to offer the service in the UK, after the trial was launched in parts of Staffordshire and the East Midlands last month.

The pandemic has further accelerated the trend towards online shopping.

Giles Hurley, chief executive of, Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “Extending this trial is about providing thousands more of our existing customers with another convenient way to shop with us, while also making Aldi accessible for many others who may not have shopped with us before.”

The cost of booking a slot varies each day, but are currently available at a cost of £3.99p for the Cardiff store.

As well as click and collect, Aldi is also trialling a delivery service in partnership with Deliveroo.

Customers living near selected stores in the East Midlands, London, Cambridge and Greater Manchester can order from a range of over 300 Aldi products and have them delivered to their doorstep in as little as 30 minutes.

Aldi is Britain’s fifth largest supermarket with 900 stores and more than 36,000 employees.

In Wales it has 50 stores and 1,300 staff.
